Mouse of Blues

flynn The following story ran in the L.A. Times last week detailing how the Mouse is cracking down on Heavy Metal shows on his properties.  Obviously this is crap, but I can’t figure out why they’d even book these shows to begin with at these locations.  It’s not too hard to figure out that Cannibal Corpse isn’t kid/family friendly.

“Heavy metal acts moved off Disney properties

Metal detectors may soon be irrelevant at House of Blues clubs, at least any sitting on property owned by the Walt Disney Co. Five heavy-metal concerts scheduled on Disney property in Anaheim and Orlando have been hastily shifted to other venues or canceled recently, according to House of Blues website calendars.

A Sept. 7 show featuring Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Throwdown and Sanctity, booked two months earlier, was moved on two days’ notice from the House of Blues in Anaheim’s Downtown Disney entertainment complex to the Glass House in Pomona. Thursday’s concert with Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Red Chord and The Abscence, originally slated for Anaheim House of Blues, was moved to the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana. A Sept. 26 Anaheim House of Blues concert featuring Obituary, Alabama Thunderpussy, Full Blown Chaos and Hemlock has been canceled outright.

At the House of Blues in Orlando, Fla., on Disney World property, a Sept. 17 concert of the Machine Head lineup has been moved to Club Firestone in downtown Orlando. The same action has been taken with the Oct. 11 Cannibal Corpse package.

Asked about the scheduling changes, John Vlautin, vice president of communications for Live Nation (formerly Clear Channel), the concert-promotion organization that owns the nationwide House of Blues chain, issued a statement Thursday that said only: ‘House of Blues offers a range of entertainment to match the audience at our venues. It was determined that the mix of entertainment at our two Disney locations should be different from our other venues.’

Vlautin declined to comment on why metal bands have been singled out after years of similar bookings or whether other metal events already scheduled, including Suffocation, Edguy and Static X, will be affected.

Rob Doughty, communications vice president for Disneyland Resorts, declined to comment, referring inquiries to Vlautin. Paul McGuigan, concert promoter at the Anaheim House of Blues, also declined to comment through a club spokeswoman.

The Walt Disney Co., through Vlautin, issued a short statement Thursday that included no specifics about the shifts of the metal concerts: ‘In consultation with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the House of Blues will provide a mix of entertainment for guests visiting Disney Resorts.’

Robb Flynn, vocalist and guitarist of Machine Head, expressed surprise about the venue change, saying in a phone interview that the group had played both clubs several times without incident. He said he had been told that Disney pressured House of Blues to evict metal on the grounds that it attracted an ‘undesirable’ element; he also said he suspects that ‘one of the main issues of contention Disney had with Machine Head was our antiwar and anti-administration lyrics.’

A sample lyric from the Bay Area quartet’s current recording, ‘The Blackening,’ goes, ‘Murder us, silence us, / Divide and conquer us.’

The veteran Cannibal Corpse, which headlines the touring Metal Blade Records bill that was removed from the Anaheim and Orlando House of Blues calendars, is known for its extreme album-cover artwork and death-obsessed lyrics such as ‘Pray to our God / With blood we praise his epic acts of hate,’ from last year’s ‘Kill’ collection. Many modern metal bands express an antiwar, anti-authority and/or anti-religion message.

John Halperin, talen booker for the Glass House, said Friday that the Machine Head show transferred to his venue came off to the satisfaction of bands and fans, despite the fact that it is an all-ages club where no alcohol is sold.”

vanhalen

It’s been a few months since the last time Van Halen announced a tour. An ‘Official’ announcement — complete with dates — is due out next week via a press conference.

Apparently Eddie went into rehab shortly after the March announcement.

The line-up is still supposed to be Eddie, Alex, DLR and featuring Wolfie on bass. Michael Anthony couldn’t be reached for comment, as he’s buried under a bottle of Jack Daniels with Lindsay Lohan & Britney Spears.

Oderus

The good folks at anarchy music have convinced Oderus Urungus (Gwar) to give earthly beings advice on everything from love, sports & how best to hide the hatred for your stepchild – as only he can give it.

Let’s face it, it’s not everyday mere mortals can get solid advice from a space lord. To ask him a question, click the above link and follow the instructions.

I wonder if he can help me figure out a way to get Rock of Love off the air — That doesn’t involve killing or f*cking Bret Michaels with a dead dog.

Tipper Gore is a bad mother

tipper gore

How shamed Tipper Gore must be. Her precious son was recently arrested for possession of marijuana. How is this possible? How could such a horrendous thing happen to the Gore family?!?

In the 80’s she did everything she could to “protect” her children from the evils of rock and heavy metal — Remember it was this very same child who she caught listening to W.A.S.P back in the 80’s. This is what compelled her to start the PMRC that later slapped warning labels on albums and cd’s.

Maybe Al Jr. is confused about what it really means to “Go Green”.

What’s even more hysterical about the news of Jr’s arrest is that he was pulled over for driving 100 mph in his PRIUS!! Comment back if you knew that the Prius could go that fast. LOL.

Check the article here.

Al & Tipper also had a couple of daughters. If memory serves, they were hotties. Let’s hope they do as their big brother does.

Sixx addict

Nikki Sixx Check out the following link for details on the upcoming Nikki Sixx biography “The Heroin Diaries” (due out later this year).  Here’s what the official Nikki Sixx website has to offer on the book:

“Set against the frenzied world of heavy metal superstardom, the cofounder of the most legendary rock band of the eighties—Mötley Crüe—offers an unflinching and utterly gripping look at his own descent into drug addiction.

Few bands were as influential as Mötley Crüe in making the 1980s the heavy metal decade. Theirs is a cyclonic story of runaway success and its price, blending outrageous record sales and arena headline tours with smashed up cars, jail sentences, models, drugs, breakups, reunions and more breakups.

In this candid memoir, Nikki Sixx—Mötley Crüe’s bassist and main songwriter—recounts the band’s heyday. The Heroin Diaries takes readers along on one of the most breathless and harrowing roller coaster rides in the history of pop music. At its heart lies the author’s nightmare come true: a punishing heroin addiction that brought him and the band to the edge of losing much more than just their spot on the charts. Serving up snapshots of rock culture at its most manic, this insider’s look at triumph and tragedy is every bit as explosive as the musical odyssey it chronicles.”

Video/audio for the track “Life is Beautiful” from “The Heroin Diaries” Soundtrack can be found at the same location.  The album, written by Sixx, James Michael (lead vocal & guitars) and DJ Ashba (guitars), comes under the moniker Sixx:A.M. and is due out at the same time as the book (September 2007 at this time).

The Iron Maidens - All girl Iron Maiden tribute band

The Iron Maidens

I was perusing around on the new Yahoo! Underground site and stumbled upon this great article about an all female Iron Maiden tribute band from LA.

Now, I watched their live videos and listened to the demo tracks which are posted on their site — Which you had better bookmark! It’s http://www.theironmaidens.com. These girls have their shit together.  They’re not just hashing their way thru the songs.  They’ve perfected them. Bruce, Steve, Adrian, Dave and Nikko (and Jannick) would be proud.

Among other things, click here to check out their rendition of ‘Number of the Beast’.

Girls, if you’re reading this, how about a show in NorCal? You know, my birthday is in November. LOL.

KORN: Video interview with Fieldy

Korn

Check out this interview with Fieldy shot earlier today. There’s some good stuff here. Fieldy talks about the new record and about how Jonathan Davis nearly died because of some medication he was on.

The group is performing tonight in Norway at the Norwegian Wood Festival — I wonder if that’s as funny in whatever language is spoken in Norway.

The band has been busy shooting a video for ‘Evolution’ which will actually feature footage of their touring drummer-Slipknot’s Joey Jordison — without his pig face mask.

Korn’s upcoming album is due on July 31 (Virgin Records).  It’s still untitled and that’s how Jonathan wants it:

“We didn’t want to label this album. It has no boundaries; it has no limits and why not just let our fans call it whatever they wanna call it?”
