Heavy Metal Keeps Hope Alive in Iraq

During my commute this morning we were listening to NPR — I wasn’t driving. Otherwise we’d have XM Liquid Metal on — Anyway, they did a story on a group of guys living in Baghdad and how they put together a series of videos about life in the warzone and how they manage to survive.
These 4 friends first came together as kids listening to Iron Maiden records. It’s how they started to learn english. Metal also inspired them to write songs and start a band. Hometown Baghdad is a series created by Chat the Planet. If nothing else, they’re onto something pretty amazing.
Anyway, there are 24 or so episodes from this project. Some of the clips are pretty graphic and uncensored — but that’s life.

It’s important to rock anywhere you are!
